Translations of Late Antique Sources, c.300-c.800: A Hand List

[I'm currently putting the bibliography together for my Worlds of Arthur and, as always on such occasions, I had recourse to the following list put together for a course I used to teach called 'Between Empires: Europe and the Mediterranean World in Late Antiquity, 284-814'.  I haven't kept it up to date since I left my old job in 2002, so it's now about a decade out of date, but I have posted it up here in the hope that it will be of use to some of you, whether students, researchers, teachers or 'interested lay-folk'.  If you want to add, send in details as comments and I'll cut and paste them into the text of the list - which needs some formatting but I haven't time at the moment.

Additions have been made, with acknowledgement and thanks to: Curt Emmanuel; Nick Baker; and the ubiquitous 'Anonymous']

Primary Sources:
This is a far from exhaustive list of contemporary sources available in translation, but it includes a good selection of the main forms of evidence from across Britain and Europe; the best way of getting a real feel for this period is to read as much primary material as you can.  There is far more Christian writing available in translation than is indicated here. The listing of translations on the web isn’t yet as complete as it might be.  Note, though, that a lot of the texts translated on the web are, for obvious copyright reasons, rather old ones.
